Fading Light: Introduction

Introduction

Water started to drip out of the shower head as a hand turned on the water to begin her nightly routine. As steam began to rise and paint the bathroom mirror, a shadowy figure stepped into the shower. Soft music could be heard from outside the door. The teen began to relax in the lavender scented air. She blocked out any outside noises as the incense burned slowly. The hot water slightly burned her, but it felt good after a long day. Outside the bathroom door, however, was something completely different.
Something gleamed in the dim light as an older looking man read his book. The details and scenery of the book had caught up with him that he didn't notice a pillow coming up from behind him. There was a soft click and before the man could turn around, the trigger was pulled, killing the man immediately. The killer moved swiftly, going into a smaller room where a young teenager lay sleeping soundly. A different pillow went over his forehead; the trigger was puller again. From behind his head, blood seeped into the once white colored pillow case. The killer went into the master bedroom next where, a woman laid, watching the Nightly News. A feather pillow surprised her as it covered her face. A scream was muffled and another shot was fired. Feathers spilled out onto the bed and floor as the intruder walked around the bed and down the hall.
Footsteps stopped outside the bathroom door and the knob began to turn slowly. The teen's hands ran through her hair, washing away the lavender scented shampoo. A loud bang frightened the adolescent and an ear-piercing scream echoed in the small bathroom. Another shoot was fired, hitting the juvenile in the chest. A body fell forward, taking the curtains with it. The careful footsteps now ran out of the blood-filled home and into the cold. The air was thick with the smell of blood. The figure left in a car parked outside the house, its taillights whipping around the corner.
A groan could be heard from the bathroom floor. The phone started to ring, constantly. The teen's hand twitched as she tried to move. "Mom? Dad?" Her voice was almost gone because of the bullet in her chest. Blood was beginning to pool around her. The room began to spin out of control as the teen stood to reach her cell phone. The blood on her hand stained the phone as she pushed 911. A shrill voice came on the line.
"Nine-one-one, what's your emergency?" The voice sounded calm and monotone.
"I've been shot." the girl whispered. The light began to fade. "Send help…" Her voice trailed off as the youth fell down onto the cold tile floor, the phone flying out of her hand sliding across the floor.
"Ma'am? Ma'am, are you alright? I'm sending an ambulance." Distant sirens could be heard before she faded into dark unconsciousness.
